Description:
British War Medal awarded to M205373 Cpl William Mitchell Royal Army Service Corps. The 'M' prefix means he was Mechanical Transport. He was not, however, a driver, as the prefix for that is 'MT'.
Provenance:
Medal found in servant's quarters Wilson Drive, Greendale, Harare when the property was being cleared for sale in 2003. Subsequent research by Rhodesian Seevices Assn researcher Gerry van Tonder located medal card showing additional entitlement of Victory Medal. No theatre of war service. Also death records of which a POSSIBLE match (yet to be proven) is William Mitchell DoD 23—24 November 1959 Brickfields, Mount Hampden, Southern Rhodesia. Estimated DoB 1872. Family information is eagerly sought. Anyone with information is asked to email thearchivist@rhodesianservices.org
