Description:
leather flying helmet Physical description
Flying Helmet: brown leather chamois—lined flying helmet with rubber ear—pieces fitted with circular—shaped ear telephones. There are three metal pop fasteners to the left side of the face and a metal guide plate is fixed to the right. A bell—shaped jack plug is fitted.
History note
Second World War period RAF flying helmet. The Type C flying helmet replaced the earlier Type B in mid—1941 and was originally without integral wiring, but this was remedied in 1944. Early models also had leather chinstraps but these were also eventually replaced with elasticated fabric ones.
